Hayden is the funniest child on this planet. She is going through a phase where she loves to walk in our shoes! Just watching her makes us laugh. Hayden is also at a point now where she can repeat just about any word that you ask her to say. Sometimes she even surprises us with words she says (she must pick some up from daycare). For instance, she's always called dogs "doggies," but the other night she called a dog a puppy! Also, she is beginning to understand more of what is said to her. Usually when we ask her something, it's a yes or no question (do you want to eat ___? do you want to go outside? etc...) Tonight after her bath, I was asking her about her day and usually she tells me "yes" or "no" to questions that are open ended, which tells me she doesn't understand what I am asking her. Well, tonight I asked her if she had fun with her teachers. She said "YES" and I said "who?" and she said "Taty (Kathy)". I was amazed and said "who else?" thinking she wouldn't understand me, but then she said "Meeka (Shamika)" and I asked who else and she said "Nany (Brandy)". I can't even express how excited I was at having my first in-depth conversation with her!

    NEW HOLIDAY PHOTOS COMING SOON...

We have over 200 photos of the holidays this year and we're having some trouble uploading them onto the site. I've contacted the makers of the site on how to correct this and am waiting to hear back. We're anxious to share our photos!

Friday - Ryan and I had our very first Parent/Teacher conference for Hayden! All in all, Hayden is doing very well in her classroom. A few of the highlights: walks and dances with balance, drinks from a no-lid cup, holds others hands and gives hugs (but rarely to Mommy and Daddy for some reason), knows how to say "NO!", loves to pretend talking on phones, knows where most of her body parts are, knows and uses sign language, will listen & resond to verbal commands, & is beginning to babble sentences.
The things that Ryan and I will need to work with Hayden on: more work on using a spoon and fork, expressing her emotions, attempting to solve more complex problems, and expanding verbal language skills.

Saturday - attended new "Movers and Shakers" class at the city's rec center. Hayden LOVED it. The structure and firm direction wasn't enforced in this class so all of the kids had SO many things to choose from. Plus the class was held in a gymnastics room, so even the bouncy floor was interesting. Hayden will not attempt a forward roll at all, though, which was one of the skills introduced in that class. We'll see how next Saturday's class goes!

Sunday - An eventful trip to Wal Mart with Mommy. Before I start in on this short story, I would like to preface it with the odd fact that Hayden doesn't like to have her hands very dirty.
All during the day, everything was normal. She ate normally, played normally, acted cheery and her usual self. She took an unusually long nap (12-3), but I didnt't think this odd for two reasons. 1) She was up from 6 that morning until her nap at 12 and 2) when she naps at school at 12, they usually have to wake her up at 2:30 b/c she hasn't gotten up on her own.

So late afternoon, Hayden and I take a trip to Wal Mart. I strap her in the chair, and we stroll through the toy aisle, the art aisle. Then we get to the food aisles and we park in front of the cheese so I can pick out some cheese for ziti. Hayden gets a little fussy and reaches out to me (which happens frequently b/c she doesn't like to be sitting in a cart for toon long) so I unstrap her and pull her out of the cart. Not one second after I finish my question of "Do you want to help Mommy pick out some cheese?" comes a SHOWER of vomit from my poor sweet little angel (I'm still holding her at this point). It's actually projectile. So I look at her, ask her if she's okay, and BAM, another vomit fountain. Just looking at her, I could tell that she wasn't done. And so a third set streams out of her mouth. Right afterwards, she looks at her dirty hands with chunks on it, looks at me, then proceeds to wipe her hands on my face! At that point, she's soaked and tired, I'm soaked, we both stink, and I'm just standing there holding her close to me and she's resting her head on my shoulder while we wait for someone to come clean our mess. What amazed me was the amount that came out of her little body. So we ditch the cart, come home and I step into the kitchen (holding Hayden) and I can feel her little body tense up again. So yes, two more episodes at home with the remnants of whatever didn't come out while at Wal Mart. She rested with me for maybe a few minutes while I searched for the Nurse Hotline and then she just pops up and decides to play. So after she cleaned out her system, she was totally fine. Played as usual, laughed, all the usual things. We think it may have been food poisoning...we don't know.

Monday (today)- trip to the eye doctor's. Hayden's right eye has always been very watery and goopy since the day she was born. So we made an appt. for her since she hadn't outgrown the condition (the doctors would tell us before that she would outgrow it by her first birthday). Anyways, when I picked her up from school last Monday, I noticed how clean it was and I had asked the teachers if they had JUST wiped her eye (we asked them not to unless it was bothering her b/c she HATED getting it wiped and she would just end up scratching it and making it really red). They stated that they didn't but noticed how good it looked. Since then, she has NOT had a problem with it. At the doctor's today, we explained the situation and she put some fluorescent drops in Hayden's eye and said that the tear duct was clear and that it was probably just blocked and worked itself out.

That was our eventful weekend. Life with child...always eventful.

Our apologies for the long delay in writing...Here's what's new in Hayden's world~

As of May 10th, Hayden took her first steps! She's walking around a lot more, but not exclusively. If there's a place she needs to get to quickly, crawling will be her mode of transportation and she's is moving FAST!!

Eating is a new venture for all of us Davis'. Hayden loves to feed herself and drop her food over the side of her chair while she stares right into our eyes after we say "your food stays on your tray, please." Hayden's favorite food: BANANAS! We have to turn her chair away from the bowl of bananas we keep in the center of our dining table while she's eating lunch or dinner or else she will reach for the bananas and not eat her regular meal.

All in all, we are all doing well. We've recently moved and Hayden needed some adjustment period, but she's loving her new surroundings now and even more explorative than ever.

How fun/hectic/unpredictable raising a toddler can be!

It wouldn't matter if Hayden had just eaten a full jar of food and a full bottle, if Mommy or Daddy is going to eat, then Hayden wants to eat whatever Mommy and Daddy are having! It's so funny because when she sees us with a plate, she will immediately drop whatever it is she is doing and crawl/cruise to us and stand there and stare at us and the food. It's so fun and so good that we can transition her into non-baby food this way. The only thing Ryan and I have to work on is eating at the dinner table so that Hayden learns that the table is where we eat. We're working on it...

I can't believe how much Hayden has changed in a little shy of one short year. I cannot even believe that she's going to be eleven months old! She's standing, cruising, has TWO teeth (front bottoms) and has her own little independent personality.

She's been attending Gymboree classes on Saturday afternoons and Ryan and I think that she enjoys it. It's a break from being in the house during the weekends and it's probably more stimulating than what daycare has to offer. Hayden does really well when it comes to the open gym part of the class, but when it's time to sit in our laps or hold our hands, she wants NO part of it. It's pretty funny when Hayden's the only baby wandering about the play area when the other babies are sitting nicely in a circle with their parents playing patty cake. So Ryan and I have a feeling that we have a very independent little woman on our hands.

Hayden is doing a little more cruising around the furniture if their are toys positioned strategically. So we know she is able to cruise, she just doesn't do much of it. Her preferred mode of transportation is her crawl and that's fast enough. I can only imagine what it's going to be like when Hayden can run!

Words like "DaDa and BaBa and MaMa" are coming to Hayden a lot more now, but I don't know if she can discriminate one from another. She's also blowing raspberries while she eats which makes for a spotty high chair and nice bib artwork. I think it's interesting to see her learning cause and effect and watching her experiment with the sounds her mouth can make and what she has the power to do.

All in all, Hayden is growing so quickly. I feel like each time I add on a photo album in this site, she looks different. Maybe she has a little more hair or a tooth has grown in a little more or she's much taller. It's always something and it's always so surprising to me how quickly this is going by.

How amazing is our little baby girl? She is now pulling herself into the standing position! We first discovered this new trick of hers when we peeked in on her while she was supposed to be taking a nap. Lo and behold...she was standing in her crib touching the wall (see photos in photo album). We've peeked in on her when she's been sitting in her crib, but we didn't think she would progress into standing so soon.

For Christmas, one of her gifts was a little piano and she gets the most practice standing up while playing with that.

One of Hayden's new favorite activities: playing on the coffee table. By "on" the table, I mean that she loves to go back and forth on the bottom ledge of the table. Again, see the photos in the photo album for a better idea of what she is doing.

She's almost eight months old and the time is going by WAY too quickly. But we're doing our best to enjoy each and every minute with our little joy baby.

Note the home page photo of Hayden with Santa Claus. She looks almost content...

Not one second after the photo was taken, she broke out into tears. I thought the look on her face was going to turn into a smile somehow, but she turned extremely upset instead. Needless to say, Mommy and Daddy jumped right in there and saved our little bear from the strange people from the North Pole.

We're crawling!! Well, sometimes. Other times, she resorts back to her trench drag where she just drags herself to where she wants to go. But she has the ability to actually crawl! And she can go from being on her belly to sitting upright. She's learning so much and so fun to watch...check out the new videos and see what I mean.
